Report
Torrential downpour cast itself upon us for the journey from Renth to the Silver Shroud Monastery. The monks hadn’t been seen in town for the days since the unnatural rains began. We entered the ravine, the straddling monastery overhead, and Eryndor spied an open hatch on the east wall, some 35’ up. He cast a grappling hook and ascended with two more close behind, but retreated from a latrine pit inhabited by the walking dead. Dark figures shouted insane ramblings from the covered bridge overhead, pelting us with rotten fruits. We ascended the switchbacks to the courtyard and met a stern spirit who bade us keep quiet. More rope brought us down into the courtyard’s well, but Eryndor missed his jump and splashed into the frigid pool, drawing the ire of a monstrous white fish. Vetna dropped rations to lure the creature away for a moment while Tinkersack rescued Eryndor with a rope and crowbar. Bavaan stirred up the monk spirit again before tumbling down the well into the water, missing the fish-beast with his polearm. Crazy Bastard held the spirit back while Lancaster clambered down the well, but Crazy Bastard was felled unconscious. We skirted around the pond. Ethereal commanded Thomasina open the doors adjacent to the jetty, and out came two grasping root-tendrils. We beat back the monstrous flora with steel and fire, but Thomasina and Vetna were brought down low. The root-choked corridor beyond yielded an iron door concealing strange lights and muffled cackling. Tinkersack slammed the door open, surprising the inhabitant, Brother Iago. The monk told us of the Tree of Terrors, the portal to a nightmare world, and that we could destroy it with the help of his great “Burning Axe”. We resolved to gather a worthy force and return to vanquish the evil and restore the monastery.
