Report

We met our new retainers Thomasina and Lancaster while carousing. Nilfiz purchased a horse and cart and we traveled under drizzling overcast skies to the Silver Shroud Monastery, where we camped securely at the base of the switchbacks in the ravine. The following day, we went to Nilfiz’ boat and rowed south, but spotted a gargantuan creature disturbing the water’s surface, and so struck east to follow the shoreline south. There, we spotted a beach cave and made to investigate. There we met Annora, a runaway thief, and she declined our offer to join the expedition. Taking a second boat from the beach cave, we portaged to the shore across from the island and made the short sail across. On the island we found an old granite staircase that descended into the yrth. Nilfiz lit the hundreds of candles in the circular antechamber and picked the lock on the door. We slayed a monstrous crawler, but not before it paralyzed Eryndor. In the meantime, Nilfiz disabled a swinging scythe trap, cleverly using stray driftwood to block the blades’ path. At Eryndor’s waking, we cut down an assailing ghoul, and ventured deeper. Then, a powerful, red-eyed undead bade us to flee, and drew from Nilfiz his life. The monster dragged the gnomish husk into the darkness and we fled up to the daylight and returned to Renth.

After a night of mourning, we returned to the valley and made for the Castle Xyntillan. Eryndor lead the party in climbing to the eastern balcony. Through the embrasures we saw a room crawling with 2’-long yellow slugs. We slipped inside, and Ethereal spoke to the creatures, but they only groaned for “living” food. One dropped off the ceiling, narrowly missing Boris. Eryndor struck one with an arrow, and another responded in kind with a spray of yellow acid- rendering Eryndor unconscious from the pain, all but disfiguring him. Defeated, we fled and returned to Renth once more, praying for better fortune in the days to come.
